Glasgow to roll out 20mph zones in residential areas
Glasgow City Council is driving forward plans to introduce mandatory 20mph zones across the city in a bid to reduce fatalities and serious injuries.
The measure was one of 20 proposals put forward by the council’s Health Commission, which was set up to address Glasgow’s health record.
The 20mph zones are to be introduced across the city on a phased basis.
Councillor George Redmond, executive member for health, said: “There’s clear evidence that the creation of mandatory 20mph zones in residential areas will save lives, reduce the severity of injuries and prevent accidents.
“This measure will help put a clear emphasis in favour of people rather than the car.”
