Durham 'EXCELerates' young driver course after successful pilot
A pilot project by Durham’s road safety team, aimed at cutting crashes among young motorists, is to be rolled out across the county.
The team has been testing EXCELerate, a bespoke course designed in house, which has been branded as ‘excellent’ by the DSA and is now on offer to driving instructors throughout County Durham.
Alan Kennedy, Durham’s road safety manager, said: “The EXCELerate course trains the trainer, so to speak. We believe through training instructors to a higher level, we can better prepare young motorists for driving in the real world, beyond the driving test.”
Tony Flory, Durham’s driver training services officer, added: “The pilot coaching was attended by the DSA, with the feedback on the course being excellent.”
