Lancashire SCP recognised for 48 years’ service

Wednesday 22nd November 2017

A school crossing patrol (SCP) who has been keeping children safe at the same school for 48 years has been recognised with a long service award from Keltic Clothing.

Irene Reid, who first became a SCP at Longridge Church of England Primary School in Preston in 1969, was presented with the award by Keltic Clothing’s Stephanie Edwards, who described Irene’s long service as ‘amazing’.

Irene is known and loved by many of the pupils, parents and teachers at the school. Showing no signs of slowing down, she says she continues to derive a lot of pleasure from helping the children in her community to stay safe.

Irene has also been praised by her employer, Lancashire County Council, as she approaches half a century of service as a SCP.

Keltic Clothing, a leading supplier of of uniforms and accessories for school crossing patrols, cycling instructors and road safety education, has for many years recognised long-serving SCPs.

In 2014, Keltic ran a competition to find the longest-serving SCP in each Road Safety GB region, with the winners receiving a bottle of champagne and long-service badge. In January 2017, Keltic announced it was to re-run the competition.

Stephanie Edwards said: “It was a pleasure to meet Irene and present her with her award. 48 years of service is commendable in any profession, but one that helps the community daily, no matter the weather, really is amazing. A huge congratulations from myself and all at Keltic Clothing.”

Geoff Purcell, Lancashire County Council, said: “Lancashire County Council would like to congratulate and thank Irene Reid for her excellent achievement of 48 continuous years’ service at Longridge Primary School as a school crossing patrol officer.

“During those years Irene has been a credit to the service and we wish her good health and fitness to reach the half century.”
