Project EDWARD 2017 ‘reaches’ 25m social media users
TISPOL has hailed the success of Project EDWARD 2017 in terms of the media interest and social media activity it generated.
The second edition of Project EDWARD (European Day Without A Road Death) took place on 21 September and looked to encourage drivers, riders and pedestrians to spare an extra thought for their safety.
The event was organised by TISPOL, the European Traffic Police Network, whose long-term aim is to use Project EDWARD to spearhead significant and sustained reduction in death and serious injury on roads across the world.
In the UK, a number of police forces, councils and road safety stakeholders organised events - including in Essex, Surrey, Sussex and Staffordshire.
Provisional results published by TISPOL today (26 Sept) show that there were 37 road deaths across Europe on 21 Sept - with a further five countries as yet yet to report their figures.
TISPOL described media interest in the event as ‘significant’, with coverage featuring on a number of TV and radio stations across the continent.
The social media activity (particularly on Twitter) has also being described as ‘very successful’.
Across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (19-21 Sept), there were 8,813 tweets using the #ProjectEDWARD hashtag. This equates to a social reach of 25m users - eclipsing last year’s total of 19.5m.
On the day itself, the hashtag #ProjectEDWARD trended at number one Ireland and also reached number four in the UK and five in Germany.
