Firefighters adapt Christmas classic to focus on road safety
Firefighters in Hertfordshire have created their own take on a Christmas classic in a bid to promote road safety messages over the festive season.
The firefighters, from Green Watch Hemel Hempstead, have adapted Shakin’ Stevens ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ to include advice on using mobile phones and drink driving.
Lyrics in the song include: “Phone is calling, in your pocket; children playing, near the road. Please don’t answer, let it go to voicemail; drive safely this Christmas.”
Greig Bescoby, watch commander at Hemel Hempstead Fire Station, said: “At Green Watch Hemel Hempstead we want to promote careful driving to make sure everyone stays safe this Christmas.
“We care passionately about this and have created our video to reach as many people as possible using the power of social media.”
Richard Thake, cabinet member for community safety, said: “This is a great bit of work from local firefighters to get important messages out in a fun and engaging way. I hope people will watch the video and take away some important lessons while getting into the festive spirit.”
As part of the Hertfordshire Road Safety Partnership, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is also supporting the partnership’s ‘Put it Away’ mobile phone campaign.
