Knowledge Centre star performer in encouraging set of online stats

Tuesday 21st June 2016

Road Safety GB’s online resources are performing well in terms of attracting visitors and delivering important road safety information to an increasing audience.

Usage of the Road Safety Knowledge Centre continues to grow steadily, with more people using the site in every month bar one to date in 2016.

The ‘Knowledge Centre’ is a comprehensive online directory of road safety information and resources. It is owned and managed by Road Safety GB and has been financially supported by Colas since it was launched in 2010.

During May 2016, 3,269 people visited the Knowledge Centre, a year-on-year increase of 46% - and 13% higher than April 2016.

The figures show a clear correlation between the increase in visitors and the number of ‘sessions’ or visits; in May, there were 4,097 visits, a 45% year-on-year increase.

After a peak in April, traffic to the Road Safety GB website and newsfeed fell back in May, although the general trend is one of growth.

A news item outlining changes to signage laws in the UK resulted in a spike in traffic in April 2016, with 39,132 visits by 31,770 visitors. The corresponding figures for May 2016 are 31,893 visits by 25,231 visitors.

Setting aside April 2015 - when a news item on child car seats saw an unprecedented boost in figures (52,891 visits and 44,254 visitors) - April and May 2016 were the two best month on record in terms of visitor numbers.

Iain Temperton, Road Safety GB director of communications, said: “I am delighted that record numbers of people are engaging with both the Road Safety GB website and the Knowledge Centre.

“Our news editorial team works very hard to produce engaging and relevant news items and I urge all of our members to the an active part in commenting on features they find interesting. This is your website, make sure your voice is heard.”
