CIHT invites entries for 2015 road safety award

Monday 12th January 2015

The CIHT is inviting entries for its 2015 Awards scheme which includes the John Smart Road Safety Award.

The annual CIHT Awards are described as “a celebration of the highways and transportation industry”. The awards are intended to provide an opportunity to “reward the remarkable achievements of those working in the sector and to promote their professionalism as best practice to a wider industry audience”.

The CIHT John Smart Road Safety Award is in recognition of the former CIHT director John Smart, who passed away suddenly in November 2012. John Smart had a strong personal and professional commitment to improving road safety throughout his career and the CIHT honours his memory through this award.

The award aims to identify, share and celebrate good road safety practice. It is open to both engineering and education, training and publicity (ETP) projects, which can “demonstrate the quantifiable effects of the project either through measurement, monitoring or description”.

The 2014 John Smart Road Safety Award went to TRL for its work relating to the hazard perception testing element of the driving theory test.

The closing date for submissions for the 2015 awards is 20 March.
