Line up complete for automated driving session
Richard Cuerden, technical director for vehicle safety at TRL, completes the speaker line up for the ‘automated driving’ session at the National Road Safety Conference next month.
The conference, which is being held in Brighton on 25-26 November, is being hosted by Road Safety GB South East Region and sponsored by Colas, AA DriveTech and the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership.
250 people have already registered to attend and the exhibition that runs alongside the conference is now fully subscribed.
Richard Cuerden has worked in road safety and vehicle engineering research for more than 20 years and leads a diverse portfolio of research and consultancy projects at TRL.
He has a strong track record of identifying safety design priorities based on real world evidence, and a wealth of knowledge and expertise with respect to vehicle technologies and accident and injury prevention.
In his presentation, The future of vehicle safety – what are the priorities?, Richard will discuss what is meant by automated driving and suggest the likely generations of technology that will be necessary - from today’s driver assistance systems to a potential future fleet comprising high numbers of fully automated vehicles capable of unmanned operation. He will also explore the potential for casualty reduction.
The automated driving session will take place on day one of the conference (Tuesday 25 November) and will also feature presentations by Matthew Avery (Thatcham Research) and Tyron Louw (University of Leeds). All three speakers will also take questions from the audience in a panel discussion at the end of the session.
