Free eyesight tests for the over 50s

Thursday 27th September 2012

Mayo County Council’s road safety team is collaborating with the Association of Optometrists Ireland to provide free eyesight tests for over 50s.

Mayo’s ‘With vision in sight’ campaign is attempting to get motorists out of the driving seat and into the optician’s chair. The campaign runs alongside Positive Aging Week (28 September – 6 October) and Road Safety Week (8 – 14 October).

Lynda McGivney Nolan, professional advisor for the Association of Optometrists Ireland, said: “While we’re giving something back to the public who support us, we're also ensuring safety on our roads by applying professional standards.

“With this campaign we believe that Mayo optometrists are helping everyone achieve the vision required to keep our roads safe - now and in the future.”

Noel Gibbons, Mayo’s RSO, said: “We are urging all drivers/riders to get regular eye examinations. Having good vision is crucial for a safe journey.”

This is a great idea, well done Noel, perhaps this is something the DfT could organise nationally here?
