'Good luck' campaign targets leaving students

Friday 8th June 2012

Students taking their Cert exams in County Mayo, Ireland, have received a message reminding them to drive safety as they leave secondary school.

Departing Cert pupils in all of County Mayo’s 30 schools will receive a ‘good luck’ card from the road safety team, which gives a number of tips to ensure they stay safe on the roads.

Noel Gibbons, Mayo RSO, said “We want young people to be aware of the dangers in cars and not to put themselves or their friends at risk, especially when it comes to travelling to venues with their friends.

“The RSA advises young motorists starting out on their driving career to take professional lessons with an approved driving instructor ‘full permit’ holder, supported by supervision from a parent or friend.

“Research shows that the more driving experience learners obtain, the safer they are likely to be when they start to drive on their own.”
