RoadSafe plans campaign for parents of young drivers

Wednesday 28th July 2010

A new campaign being developed by RoadSafe and its members will provide information for parents of young drivers, and make them aware of support available in their local area.

The media campaign, which will launch in September, will set out to help parents make their children the best possible drivers. It will raise awareness of the risks novice drivers face, and of parents/guardians’ responsibilities towards young drivers. It will also encourage parents/guardians to ensure that they provide effective support for their children as they take to the road for the first time.

The campaign will also provide advice and local information about selecting a driving course and approved driving instructor, and choosing a safe car for a young driver.

Adrian Walsh, director of RoadSafe, said: “The campaign will use national and local media, and to run it without referring the audience to what is available in their local area would be unthinkable.

“Many road safety teams already provide excellent support for parents and novice drivers. We’re asking RSOs to provide information about what they do in this important area so that we can build the campaign website to signpost this and ensure that the local media is engaged.”

Links, appropriate contacts, briefing material and other information should be sent to Clare Simpson at RoadSafe.
